Stark is the number one in the ranks of Espada. He appears to be very lazy. He is often seen sleeping and does not appear overly concerned by any news. When he is needs to be serious, his personality changes completely; he comes off as reluctant but nonetheless willing to do what needs to be done to attempts to accomplish the task. Stark’s hollow mask consists of a bottom jaw that is positioned like a necklace. He is one of the fastest Espada in Hueco Mundo.

Barragan Luisenbarn is known as the number 2 Espada. The remnant of his mask takes the form of a five-pointed crown. His outlook shows large visible scars on the left side of his chin and across his right eye, and wears a large rope-like sash with a sun-crested buckler attached to it. He appears to hold a high control of power over the other Espada and possesses great self-confidence in himself.

Halibel is the current third Espada as well as the sole current female Espada. She is very calm and rarely speaks. The remains of Halibel’s hollow mask are partially covered by her collar, but it is clear that she at least has pieces of mask on both sides of her cheeks. She carries her Zanpakuto horizontally behind her shoulders. Her sword is particularly broad and short.

Neliel Tu Oderschvank is originally known as the former third Espada. When first introduced, she is called Nel Tu which is seen as a good-natured, child-like arrancar. The remains of her hollow mask make up a cartoonish skull on the top of her head. Nel’s true form is that of a fully-grown woman, her mask appears with a pair of curved horns. A large “3″ tattooed on her back signifies that she was previously in the ranks of Espada. The cause of her child-form is due to an assault by Nnoitra Jiruga in the past, turning her into a child-form, giving her amnesia, and allowing him to remove her from the ranks of Espada. Nel possesses a powerful ability to swallow cero attacks and fire them back. In her adult form, she can also add her own cero to this blast, doubling its power. Nel’s Zanpakuto, which manifests when she transforms, is named Gamuza. Its release command is “declare”. Her released form is that of a ibex-like centaur with longer curved horns, a thick tail, and armor over her shoulders and hands. Her sword transforms into a double-ended lance, giving her the appearance of a medieval knight. One of her powerful attack is called Lanzador Verde. It moves her lance at an extreme high speed with rotating effects, drilling through anything it hits.

Ulquiorra Schiffer is the number four Espada, signified by the “4″ tattooed to his chest. He has a largely stoic appearance, hardly ever changing his facial expression, and does not allow the actions of others to obstruct the tasks set to him by Sōsuke Aizen. The remains of Ulquiorra’s hollow mask forms a broken helmet with a curved horn and settles on the left half of his head. He has the ability to flashback events he has witness to others by removing and crushing his left eye, which then turns into dust and flows around those Ulquiorra is relaying information to. Ulquiorra is a strong believer in absolute materialism and has claimed that what his eye cannot see does not exist.

Nnoitra Jiruga is the fifth Espada, signified by the “5″ on his tongue. He wears a large eye-patch that covers most of the left side of his face The remains of his hollow mask consists of a small set of jawbones and teeth. He claims to possess the toughest skin of any Espada as he can deflect powerful attacks without any sign of injury. One of his ability enables him to track and measure sources of spiritual power by touching his fingertip to the ground. His Zanpakuto, Santa Teresa, takes the form of a huge ax-like weapon bearing two crescent moon blades fused together at their backs. When released with the command “pray”, Nnoitra gains two additional sets of arms, and each of his hands gains an identical scythe-like weapon.[26] He grows a pair of horns on his head, one longer on one side than the other, mimicking the crescent shape of his sealed Zanpakuto. Adding to his abilities, Nnoitra is able to self-regenerate almost instantly in his released state.

Grimmjow Jaegerjaques is the number six Espada, signified by the “6″ tattooed to his back. Grimmjow has a very bold character. Grimmjow is always hungry for battles, challenging the strongest opponent for thrills. Grimmjow dislikes being looked down on, becoming infuriated beyond consolation when he feels that someone does so. The remains of his hollow mask consist of the right jawbone. When his Zanpakuto, Pantera is released with the command “grind”, he takes up an appearance alike a panther. He takes on more animal-like features such as jagged teeth, feline ears, clawed hands, and a tail that can be used as a powerful whip. In that state, his speed increases drastically, giving him animal-like agility and movements. His roar creates shockwaves in the air, and he is able to unleash a large number of “darts” from his elbows and create energy claws called Desgarron from his fingertips.

Zommari Leroux is the seventh Espada. He is a quiet, reverent figure that shows great respects to Sosuke Aizen. The remains of his hollow mask take the form of a necklace made out of teeth and a ridge of spikes running down the center of his forehead. Zommari has the self-proclaimed fastest sonído among the Espada, referred to as Gemelos Sonído. He can leave up to five afterimages in his stead after unleashing it. His Zanpakuto, Brujería is released with the command “abate”. When released, he gains a total of fifty eyes, each of which can be used to gain complete control of whatever or whoever they look upon. This technique is called Amor . His legs are also transformed into a pumpkin-like structure that he can hide within as a defensive measure.

Szayel Aporro Grantz is the eighth Espada. He portrays the image of a scientist among the Espada. He thinks highly of himself and follows his plans down to the finest detail. With a sadistic character, he views others as little more than research material. Szayel has a range of ways to analyze an opponent’s abilities, such as studying the damage done to their former opponents. Upon doing so, Szayel can nullify the effects of their abilities, making him virtually immune to their attacks. The remains of his hollow mask take the form of rectangular-framed glasses. Szayel’s Zanpakuto, Fornicaras, is released with the command “sip”. In his released state, Szayel grows two pairs of thin wings, his lower body transforms into a flock of long tentacles, and a blood-like liquid drips from all over his body. If one of these droplets comes into contact with an opponent a doppelganger of them is created that Szayel can control to use their abilities against them. One of the deadly ability Szayel possess is to create voodoo dolls by wrapping an opponent in his wings. Any damage done to the dolls’ internal organs effects his opponents directly, debilitating them from the inside. Should he be eaten, Szayel’s body will fuse with its opponent’s nervous system, allowing him to gain complete control of their body. Adding to his abilities, he possesses a skill known as Gabriel that allows him to be reborn if he is injured beyond repair by impregnating an enemy.

Aaroniero Arruruerie is the ninth Espada, signified by the “9″ tattooed to his two faces. He is the last of the first-generation Espada. He has an unusual glass capsule filled with red liquid and two floating masks in place of a head, which he usually covers with a tall white mask. The two masks tend to talk in tandem when revealed, giving the effect of two people speaking in turn. Aaroniero possesses the ability to absorb other hollows in their entirety, not only giving him their power but their unique abilities and memories as well. Upon absorbing a hollow, Aaroniero can manifest any aspect of them at will, including their physical form. Aaroniero’s weakness is sunlight, which nullifies his powers on contact and reveals his true form. Aaroniero’s Zanpakutōo, Glotonería, is released with the command “devour”. In his released state the lower half of his body turns into a huge, purple, octopus-like mass with dozens of tentacles and cartoonish mouth-like mask pieces. When Glotoneria is released, Aaroniero can access the full range of his abilities at will.

Yammy is the tenth Espada, signified by the “10″ tattooed to his left shoulder. The remains of his hollow mask is the jawbone, which rests on his chin. He is the largest, but not the brightest among the ranks of the Espada. Yammy often relies on Ulquiorra Schiffer to define things and has to follow Ulquiorra’s instruction during battles. Yammy primarily ability is his brute strength and cero blasts. He takes little interest in using his sword until he is overpowered. Yammy possess a special ability in absorbing the souls from living humans as a whole using Gonzui. It affects a broad area, however, any individual with even slight spiritual power is able to resist it to some degree.
